CDT Unveils Envision 2026 to Futureproof the Business of Government
SACRAMENTO, Calif. –
Why it Matters: This strategic plan lays the groundwork for an innovative, resilient and equitable IT infrastructure that empowers California government’s workforce, engages its residents, and advances its position as the leader in public sector technology.
Today, the California Department of Technology (CDT) proudly announces the launch of “Envision 2026: California Technology’s Future,” a transformative statewide technology strategy aimed at delivering innovative digital government services to all Californians. This initiative charts a path for the state government IT community to deliver technology strategically and equitably to all Californians.
Envision 2026 is the culmination of extensive collaboration and engagement with stakeholders across business and technology sectors. It was informed by more than 1,700 touchpoints with key stakeholders, including agency information officers, chief information officers, secretaries, undersecretaries, directors, and chief deputy directors, who provided invaluable insights and feedback. These interactions were important in identifying recurring themes that shaped its development.

The 3-year strategy outlines five key goals:
- Advance an Inclusive Digital Experience for All to ensure equitable access to digital government services.
- Secure California’s Technology Investments by safeguarding public sector technology infrastructure and data.
- Strengthen California’s Public Sector Technology Workforce for Today and Tomorrow by creating and retaining skilled and adaptable employees.
- Align Strategy Execution Across the State through efforts to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
- Continually Future-Proof the Business of Government by preparing for technological advancements.
To ensure effective implementation, Envision 2026 will be supported by rigorous performance management and improvement processes. Annual roadmaps for 2024, 2025, and 2026 will guide execution, with progress monitored through quarterly dashboards and annual reports.
