CDT Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)

Description

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offers customers access to a private cloud hosted at CDT data centers. Through a user-friendly self-serve portal, CDT IaaS customers can quickly tap into a shared pool of computing resources, creating and removing virtual machines on a pay-as-you-go basis.

This IaaS solution provides a shared virtual infrastructure, reducing or even eliminating the need for upfront capital investments. Customers can enjoy cost savings compared to traditional physical server setups. Additional options like expanded storage, virtual private network devices for site-to-site connections, backup and restore services, RAM and CPU upgrades, and infrastructure disaster recovery (iDR) are available both during and after the provisioning process.

Benefits

  • Low-cost hosting solution
  • No capital expenditures
  • Rapid provisioning
  • Secure access and secure data
  • High availability
  • VPN device (site- to-site) service
  • Customer controlled virtual servers
  • Multiple base virtual machine size options

Included

CDT IaaS is a private cloud completely contained within the CDT data centers which allow customers the ability to provision resources through a self-serve portal on a pay-per-use basis.

Customers can create and delete x86_64 VMs (Windows or Linux) with no capital expense. Customers are responsible for the installation and maintenance of their own applications while CDT takes care of the physical resources. Optional backup/restore and iDR services provide the Customer with a worry-free computing environment.

Virtual Machine

Standard x86_64 virtual machines are available in several base machine sizes. Also, the base size can be modified after the VM has been built. Additional memory and disks along with backup/restore and infrastructure iDR services can be added at any time through the CDT IaaS self-serve portal.

Operating System

CDT IaaS offers customers these operating system options in its base offering:

  • Microsoft Windows Server (64-bit)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (64-bit)

CDT IaaS provides N (current version) and N-1 (previous version) versions of each of the following operating systems listed above.

OS Licenses are provided. It is up to the customer to verify the license is applied correctly.

Virtual Private Network (VPN)

VPN capabilities from the CDT IaaS self-serve portal are available for site-to-site VPN connections between the CDT IaaS and the customer’s remote location. Each VPN is dedicated to one customer and is not shared with other customers. Each VPN can be configured with additional tunnels. CDT administrators will support the CDT IaaS VPN endpoint. The Customer will configure and support the endpoint in their system environment.

The base cost of a VPN comes with 2 tunnels. More can be added.

Administration

Request Changes to an Existing System

CDT manages requests via these vehicles:

CDT IaaS Self-Serve Portal

Most changes are completed directly through the CDT IaaS self-serve portal; Customers have full control of their virtual machines. Changes include (but are not limited to):

  • Choosing a base image (e.g., Windows, RHEL)
  • Changing base T-shirt size (e.g., S, M, L, XL)
  • Changing memory and storage
  • Adding/removing backups
  • Adding/removing disaster recovery (Tier I/II)
  • Besides remote management protocols per OS (SSH, RDP), a console can be connected to the OS from the self-server portal.

Service Request Management System

All requests should be submitted via a Case. Submission types include (are not limited to):

  • Requests to discontinue CDT IaaS services
  • Requests for billing corrections
  • Requests for routing or physical network changes
  • Establishing connections to legacy equipment
  • VPN
  • Access to the self-serve portal
  • • Restores from backup
