Storage as a Service (STaaS) On-Premises

Description

The California Department of Technology (CDT) offers On-Premises Storage as a Service (STaaS). CDT is offering the service at its data centers in Rancho Cordova and Vacaville. The STaaS offering has four tiers of storage. All storage tiers will have data stored with encryption at rest, and there are no fees incurred when uploading or downloading data to the service.

Tier I

Provides a fiber channel or IP connected storage system with a response time that is less than or equal to 5 milliseconds (ms) for read/write activity.

Tier II

Provides a fiber channel or IP connected storage system with a response time that is less than or equal to 25 ms for read/write activity.

Tier III

Provides a fiber channel or IP connected storage system with a response time that is less than or equal to 100 ms for read/write activity.

Tier IV

Provides a fiber channel or IP connected storage system with a response time that is less than or equal to 4000 ms for read/write activity.

Request Service

To submit a service request for Storage as a Service (STaaS) On-Premises, please go to this link: Storage as a Service (STaaS) On-Premises.

Request ProcessService Request OptionScenario Description
STEP 1
Customer submits Case/Request #1
Cost Estimate and Design
For new subscriptions or major changes (i.e., changes to bandwidth, connections, tier types, etc.).

A “Cost Estimate and Design” service request (select within the service options drop down field) must first be submitted and completed for the cost estimate, evaluation, and design (except for a Change within Existing Storage Capacity).

All scenarios listed requires first submitting a Cost Estimate and Design service request PRIOR to submitting the corresponding Implementation service request, except for Discontinuation and Allocation.
Scenario #1: New
New Customer - Customer has never subscribed to STaaS (no existing storage service)
Scenario #2: Change storage tier
Existing Customer - Customer currently subscribes to and is billed for a STaaS type of storage tier (e.g., Tier I, Tier II, Tier III, Tier IV) and requires a change in Storage tier (e.g., from Tier IV to Tier 1)
Scenario #3: Increase or reduce subscribed capacity
Existing Customer - Customer requires an Increase or decrease to currently subscribed capacity (i.e., this is to increase or decrease billed capacity, NOT to increase allocation within existing billed capacity.)
  • E.g., If Customer is currently subscribed to and billed for 100GB of storage, but needs to increase to 200GB of storage at Tier X, submit a “Change storage” service request

  • E.g., If Customer is currently subscribed to and billed for 100GB of storage at Tier X, but wants to reduce to 50GB of storage, submit a “Change storage” service request
Scenario #4: Change storage storage connection or bandwidth
Existing Customer - Customer currently subscribes to and is billed for a STaaS type of storage tier (e.g., Tier I, Tier II, Tier III, Tier IV) and requires a new or change in connection type or bandwidth (e.g., from Fibre Channel to IP, 1GB to 10GB bandwidth)
STEP 1 - Exception AAllocation
Allocation change within existing Storage Capacity (of subscribed storage capacity; this includes deleting a LUN)

To request a change in existing storage capacity allocation, a Cost Estimate and Design service request is NOT required.
  • E.g., If Customer is currently subscribed to and billed for 100GB of storage at Tier X, but wants to change their allocation within the existing 100GB of storage, submit a “Allocation Change within Existing Capacity” service request
STEP 1 - Exception BDiscontinue
Discontinue Storage as a Service (STaaS) On-Premises

To request complete discontinuation of STaaS On-Prem, a Cost Estimate and Design service request is NOT required.
  1. Customer must have migrated their storage elsewhere before submitting a request to disconnect or discontinue services.

  2. Customer must attach email/pdf Customer ISO approval to the Case OR approve as a Customer Administrator. Failure to attach or provide Customer ISO approval will result in rejection or cancellation of the request.

  3. Select “Discontinue existing service’ from the Service Options drop down field) and complete the requested information.
STEP 2
If Customer approves the cost estimate and would like to move forward, the Customer submits Case/Request #2
Implementation
After receiving the cost estimate and storage diagram provided by CDT (STEP 1), submit another service request for implementation and attach the 1) cost estimate 2) storage diagram and 3) cable schema.

All scenarios listed above in STEP 1. Cost Estimate and Design requires completing a Cost Estimate and Design service request PRIOR to submitting the corresponding Implementation service request, except for Discontinuation and Allocation
