TA 25-02: Sunsetting Individual Remote Access VPN Service
Issue Date: May 23, 2025
Attention: Individual Remote Access VPN Customers
Action Requested: Submit Decommission Case by March 1, 2026
Effective Date: July 1, 2026
Overview
As of July 1, 2026, the California Department of Technology (CDT) is sunsetting the Individual Remote Access VPN Service due to decreased usage and declining subscriptions.
Customers currently using this service will need to transition to another VPN Service by no later than March 1, 2026, as this service will be decommissioned on July 1, 2026.
Action Requested
Current Individual Remote Access VPN customers must develop a transition plan for remote connectivity needs when accessing CDT Data Center resources. Customers still requiring Remote Access VPN services are encouraged to begin the process of migrating from the current CDT-operated model to a self-hosted or vendor-hosted solution.
CDT offers a turn-key remote access solution through our Citrix platform, which offers several features such as multi-factor authentication, multiple device access options, and predictable pricing. Additional information can be found here: https://cdt.ca.gov/services/citrix/
Current Individual Remote Access VPN customers must submit a VPN Services Case in the CDT IT Services Portal (ServiceNow) by no later than March 1, 2026 to decommission their current Individual Remote Access VPN service.
