Congratulations to the PMLA’s Inaugural Class Graduates
The statewide Project Management Leadership Academy, designed specifically to develop and enhance the skills of project managers, graduated its first class on November 30, 2017. The event was hosted by Gretchen Williams, Deputy Director of the Office of Professional Development, and the ceremony opened with remarks from Amy Tong, Director and State CIO, Department of Technology and Chris Cruz, Chief Deputy Director and Deputy State Chief Information Officer, Department of Technology.
Featured speakers included Cathy Cleek, Chief Information Officer, Franchise Tax Board, Kim Vu, PMLA Mentor, Department of Rehabilitation, and Interns Nalini Shenoy, Office of Systems Integration and Ricardo Pardell, Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Graduation certificates were presented by PMLA Executive Sponsor John Boule, Director, Office of Systems Integration and Gretchen Williams.
“The Project Management Leadership Academy provided an invaluable experience for all of the participants,” stated Williams about the program. “I am truly inspired by the individual growth I observed in every one of the students. Each of them modeled the way and demonstrated the value of ‘Leaning In’ on the opportunity.”
Participants spent over 11 weeks in the classroom and received on-the-job mentoring experience on an IT project at a participating department. This component offered a chance for participants to interact with top state IT executives as well as subject matter experts from the industry.
The inaugural PMLA 2017 program has received many positive reviews from interns, mentors, and department stakeholders and has prepared a solid core of future project managers for California.
