Db2

Description

z Systems database has quickly evolved into the premier performer with Db2 providing unparalleled scalability, delivering extreme levels of access as well as hybrid solutions. Db2 scales beyond the conventional workload managed systems where it leads the industry for on-premises and on the cloud.

Off the shelf, Db2 unlocks so much potential it allows most applications to analyze data across platforms, languages, and data types whenever required.

CDT provides full-stack Db2 support on the z Systems platform. In addition to classic deployment scenarios, CDT also provides advanced technologies, such as Advanced Server with enhanced security, replication, clustering, and load balancing, to meet customer business requirements.

  • IBM Db2 Loader – A tool that provides capabilities and options for loading data into Db2 and the accelerator.
  • IBM Data Virtualization Manager (DVM) – Allows for creating real-time, virtual views of enterprise data, both for mainframes and non-mainframes. Data remains securely in place, ready when needed, in the right format wherever it resides. DVM widely leverages API interfaces supporting SQL, JSON, SOAP, HTTP, and REST.
  • REST Services API / Db2 Feature – RESTful services fully integrate applications into the world of mobile applications. These services allow mobile, web, and cloud applications to securely access business-critical data in the Db2 subsystems backend.
  • Data Server Manager (DSM) – An integrated database management tool platform for Db2, allowing DBAs the capability to monitor performance, track configuration changes, administer databases, and proactively or reactively optimize the database environment in one integrated end-to-end tool.
  • IBM Tivoli Omegamon XE for Db2 Performance Expert on z/OS (OMPE) – A single tool to monitor, analyze and tune the performance of IBM Db2 for z/OS and IBM Db2 applications. It helps to detect performance problems so they can be isolated and resolved more quickly.

Security

IBM Db2 system administration (SYSADMIN) authority is restricted to CDT designated personnel.

The customer database administrator (DBADM) authority is performed by the account level database administrators (DBAs). The DBAs will have access to database objects and utilities to manage all of the customer’s files that compose the database within Db2.

All customer database files will be secured by RACF profiles to protect the individual files on a database. The customer is required to define the RACF access requirements and keep the documentation up to date.

The DBADM will also have access to other objects in Db2 such as tables, packages, plans, stored procedures, etc. Both SYSADMINs and DBADMs will work together to ensure security is maintained for all objects within Db2.

Configuration changes made outside the scope of the service request which requires intervention, correction, or troubleshooting by CDT staff may incur additional charges.

Availability

The core business hours for Db2 technical support are Monday through Friday from 0700 – 1700. State holidays and mandated schedule alterations are observed and may impact staff availability. After hours, on-call technical support may be requested through a service request submitted 10 days prior to the requested date and may incur additional charges.

Optional

Software

  • IBM Encryption Tool for Db2 – Data encryption tool for z/OS Db2 databases enabling Customers to protect sensitive and private data at the table level.
  • IBM Optim Move for z/OS – Manages enterprise data throughout every stage of the information lifecycle. Optim will assess, classify, subset, archive, store, and access enterprise application data. Move includes Optim Legacy where both are relational copy facilities that migrate relationally intact sets of data from multiple sources to corresponding destinations.
  • InfoSphere Data Replication (IIDR) – Provides a way to replicate and publish data to external applications by using the Q Replication and SQL Replication technologies.
  • Replication Center (part of IIDR) – Replication tool required to generate the DDL to register tables, and define and build registrations to perform replication of data between two environments.
  • IBM Db2 Data Studio – Provides an integrated, modular environment to enable database development and administration of IBM Db2® for Linux, UNIX, and Windows.
  • Db2 for z/OS Testbase by Softbase – An integrated toolset for Db2 application development and analysis. Provides a revolutionary new patented technology for test data management called Slice, which enables all Application Developers and QA personnel in a shop to test together within one set of Db2 objects without impacting each other’s results.
  • RAI Tools – Smart / RRSAF – Allows Db2 batch programs to run with regular JCL, so they look and behave like standard OS jobs. Smart/RRSAF enables applications to update Db2, MQ, IMS and/or any other RRS compliant resources within a single unit of recovery.
  • RAI Tools – Smart / Restart – Provides batch applications with robust and symmetric COMMIT and ROLLBACK services whose scope encompasses changes to all resources a batch application may access. In its role as a resource manager and syncpoint coordinator, Smart/RESTART guarantees that updates to RRS compliant resources (such as Db2 and WebSphere MQ) stay ‘in sync’ with the application’s sequential file and cursor position, program storage, and random VSAM updates.
  • RAI Tools – Thread/SENTRY – Provides automated monitoring and policy enforcement for Db2 threads. Thread/SENTRY makes it unnecessary to manually identify Db2 problem threads or to explicitly cancel them. Simply define what constitutes a ‘problem thread’ in terms of threshold measurements such as elapsed time, CPU time, the number of SQL statements executed, the number of locks held, etc. Thread/SENTRY detects such problem threads automatically based on pre-defined criteria.
  • RAI Tools – Thread Stopper – Allows authorized users to cancel such threads gracefully — before they impact your system and disrupt large numbers of users. It can also clear the way for critical applications and utilities to run without contention.
