Artificial Intelligence Community

The mission of the Artificial Intelligence Community (AIC) is to bring state experts together in shaping the future of ethical, transparent, and trustworthy Artificial Intelligence (AI).

AI has the potential to create significant opportunities for government transformation, enabling greater efficiency while improving the accuracy and effectiveness of decision-making and service delivery. The California Department of Technology (CDT) is leading a statewide, internal AIC to foster awareness on AI and to share best practices, use cases, resources, and lessons learned. The AIC is open to state employees interested in engaging and collaborating on how to responsibly adopt AI technologies.

FAQ

What is Artificial Intelligence (AI): AI sometimes called machine intelligence, is intelligence demonstrated by machines, unlike the natural intelligence displayed by humans. Leading AI textbooks define the field as the study of “intelligent agents”: any device that perceives its environment and takes action that maximizes its chance of successfully achieving its goals. Colloquially, the term “Artificial Intelligence” is used to describe machines (or computers) that mimic cognitive functions that humans associate with human minds, such as learning and problem solving.
